Gamma Hydroxy-Butyrate(GHB) - AKA Sodium Oxybate is a valuable medication in the treatment of Depression, Insomnia and Narcolepsy. Currently in the United States, exclusive marketing rights of GHB have been granted to Orphan Medical, under the brand name of Xyrem™. In Europe, GHB is marketed under the brand Names of Gamma-OH™ and Alvacor™
The purpose of this Page is to provide information about the home synthesis of GHB, and is intended for those who's right to access this medication has been limited. While We acknowledge the increasing problem of abuse of this medication, it is not our intention to condone or facilitate such abuse.
Synthesis
There are two commons salts of GHB: the potassium salt: KGHB (AKA Potassium Oxybate) and the sodium salt: NaGHB (AKA Sodium Oxybate).It is my opinion that KGHB is preferable to NaGHB, as the average persons contains an excess of sodium and a deficiency of potassium.
Making GHB is easy if you carefully read the synthesis and take care to follow the necessary safety procedures. There are many other methods to make GHB, but I have limited listing to the methods that I believe are the easiest to get good results consistently. Over time I may add or change these syntheses.
To make GHB solution follow the Kitchen GHB Synthesis
If you prefer to make powder, follow the Powdered GHB Synthesis. However, GHB should not be taken in powdered form unless you have very accurate laboratory balance to measure the final dose.
Warning: GBL is sometimes called 1,4 butyrolactone, This is NOT the same thing as 1,4 butandiol (AKA butylene glycol, tetramethylene glycol, ProG). Trying to make GHB using 1,4 butandiol and NaOH is not possible and the reaction won't happen!!! If you attempt this you will have a solution of dangerously high pH. 1,4 butandiol has also been known to cause kidney problems, I recommend avoiding 1,4 butandiol. Unfortunately some of the Suppliers listed below also sell 1,4 BDO, anything I say about there reliability DOES NOT apply to their 1,4 BDO products.
